In my community, I sensed a general feeling of hopelessness and defeat amid the rise of Covid-19, tragedy, and civil unrest. I set out to change the narrative using my network and professional expertise.
The Solution
I reached out to my network and gathered them together under the below mission statement:
We are a group of Black professionals who leverage our expertise and network to enact tangible change for the benefit of Black rights and the deconstruction of systemic racism.

Find a way to participate in mutual aid efforts in our community, especially for students, and promote black business owners.
The Results
Vote Pro Black Education & Awareness
Pro Black Club distributed 500+ voter guides and garnered tens of thousands of impressions on shareable guides and infographics about the ballot, registration, the 2020 census voting safely during a pandemic, and supporting local polls. We also shared stories from the community.

In partnership with Altagracia Alvarado, Pro Black Club shared wellness practices, provided guided journals and meditations to their social audience, and promoted black joy as an act of revolution during civic unrest.

In partnership with Nothin But Blk Flea (fmr. Melanin Market Los Angeles) Pro Black Club had a monthly activation at the market and used its audience to drive Its audience to support businesses at the market via social and paid media.

Pro Black Club sold "Vote Pro Black" yard signs, t-shirts, and tote bags and donated proceeds toward tech enablement for black and brown students navigating distanced learning.

Voter Guide
Pro Black Club researched, debated, and established a voter guide for Los Angeles voters looking for assistance as they made their way to the polls. Pro Black Club partnered with Your Vote Your Moment, The Babe Cave Los Angeles, Melanin Market Los Angeles, and various black0owned local businesses to distribute their voter guide. The guide was also available online via QR code and multiple social posts.

Collecting & Sharing Stories
Pro Black Club spoke to community members IRL at the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Mall farmer's market to ask what voting "Pro Black" meant or share why they voted "Pro Black." Testimonials were shared on Instagram, via In-feed videos and Instagram Stories.

In partnership with writer, energy workerm and organizer, Altagracia Alvarado to produce and share weekly guided meditations, journal prompts, and wellness tips with our online community.

Pro Black Club shared branded memes featuring vintage black advertisements, notable figures from Mo-Town, and other spreading messages of support for black people and opportunities to laugh.

In partnership with Melanin Market LA, promoted their monthly activation with a paid media campaign promoting "Buy Black." We also established a recurring activation at the market for our Vote Pro Black campaign.
